Alright, my main computer -- a desktop -- cannot connect to the Internet. Here's what I can tell you: 1) The computer in question is physically connected to a wireless router. 2) The wireless router seems to be working fine, because our two laptops can connect to the Internet with no trouble. On a whim, I tried connecting the desktop straight into the DSL modem just to say I tried everything… no dice. 3) It apparently cannot acquire an IP address. 4) There are no conflicts in the hardware profile that would indicate a problem with the network adapter. 5) I did the basic "ipconfig /release and /renew" thing -- this did not seem to fix the problem. Any suggestions as to what I could try next? |

UPDATE: Suddenly it is working, but things are loading EXTREMELY slowly. And the little two-computer network icon at the bottom right of the screen is still trading the Little Yellow Ball of Harmony and saying "acquiring network address." |

If you login to your router, does the LAN connection for your PC show up in the active connections listing? Is the little LED on your ethernet adapter lit up when your computer is connected to the router? |

1) I don't know. I'll try this when I get back later. 2) Yes. |

I plugged one of the laptops into the router via the same cord as the desktop and there were no connectivity issues. Which leads me to believe that the issue is with the desktop and not the router. |

Delete the network adapter and reload the drivers… That's what I would do… |

No. This is what you should do. Do a little dance. Make a little love. Get down tonight. |

Or if that doesn't work… BOOGIE. Do a little dance. Make a little love. Golly I've missed you. d, silly. Though you're a wonderful human, Jeff… |

Also might want to do a spyware scan. The connectivity issue and the slowness could be a result of something else hogging your system's net usage or even the hard drive or ram. Download Spybot S&D;if its not already on there, and run a scan. But try the drivers first. |
