It's a chance for gamers to show the world that we're not a bunch of violent, anti-social juveniles and help make a difference in the lives of some very unfortunate children.  They've added a bunch of new hospitals this year, plus there's the option of donating a couple dollars through Paypal…every dollar helps.  And if you're on a budget this year, please just pass the link along to anyone who might be interested.
