hey party people,

i feel like i've been asking for a lot of luck/vibes lately. i'm even afraid to suggest that things might be turning in my favor, but a lot of things are riding on the next 24 hours. and i could use vibes, prayers, whatever it is you do… to bring things around.

you don't have to post back, just putting it out in the universe would be great.

thanks,
e

p.s. i'll let you know, when i know, when things pan out. :)

Thanks guys,

Good news item #1. I landed a temp-to-perm position at a non-profit that works for the global advancement of women.

I'm sort of afraid to exhale, and it happened really strangely. I've been applying at a lot of temp agencies and I applied at one downtown. It was the longest process and I was kind of annoyed because I had to fill out a ridiculously long information / application sheet and I had to run through some computer tests for them. Katie, the woman who interviewed me, was really sweet but they never called me about temp or permanent positions.

About a week ago, I noticed that there was an admissions job at a college in a far northwest suburb. I saw that it was listed by the same agency, except one of their suburban branches.

I called the downtown office to ask about how to persue that job. They put me through to a different guy named Shaun. I was kind of annoyed that they just wouldn't let me talk to Katie and even more annoyed that he seemed all loosey-goosey - like he really had no idea who I was. He wound up grabbing my resume and telling me that he liked it and that he was excited to have spoken with me (all stuff I thought was kind of weird, given the fact that I expected this to be sort of Katie's bag). He said I could call the suburban office to talk about the other job but that he would keep me on the top of the pile.

A week passes. Yesterday he calls me up and says he has something that he thinks is perfect. We played phone tag all day.

Finally this morning, I caught him at the office. Temp to perm position is basically a job they are creating. It's pretty low hourly to begin, but the office is moving to the suburbs in February and they want to make sure whoever handles this position can work downtown right now, and then transition to the suburbs later. I have a car, and I'm fine with the suburbs (planning on moving to Oak Park, which is sort of like a non-suburban suburb, for a change of pace in March when I place my mother in a nursing facility - the company is moving to a western suburb, which is just on the other side of Oak Park, probably a 15 minute commute).

He says the job itself is in marketing and communications. He didn't explain what the title/complete job specifics were, but he said that in the beginning I would be working with the Executive Director to develop the position. He said my resume and experience make me perfect for the job and that they're really excited.

And then he said that he would need to speak with his co-worker Mindy about me and suggest me as a candidate. He said they want to get someone in as early as Tuesday next week and that he would let me know by 2pm.

I'm in. Kinda weird that I went from Katie to Shaun to Mindy… I feel like I haven't done much work on this whatsoever. Just being in the right place at the right time.

But the really weird thing is that in astrology world, Chiron is squaring Uranus. Even I'm not exactly sure what that means, but it is a hard aspect (bad times!). They've been in this position from April 2007 until Dec 8.

Dec 9th is the start date for the temp-to-hire. I know this is me finding patterns in the universe, but it is kind of crazy.

Anyway, the job is a 7-8K raise from my last corporate gig. Except it's a non-profit. So I have high hopes. But I may need to learn fast, because I don't remember how to do half of the things that are on my resume!

Good News #2 may come this evening - KNOCK ON WOOD - so stay tuned.

Um, no.  You did the work ahead of time by BEING FUCKING AWESOME.

I'm so happy for you. You deserve this more than anyone I know… good luck with #2, I'll be anxious to hear.

#2 is that I think I have a tenant for the apartment I've been trying to rent out. My roommate found some people through craigslist that are moving to Chicago in January. She's going to move upstairs and split rent with them. She signed the lease and she's giving me the deposit next week. The really cool thing about this is that I'd lowered my price quite a lot, even though I wanted $1500 for it (that's what 3 bedrooms run in Chicago), but with the economy the way it is and rentals being almost impossible Dec-Feb, I was down to $1300. But somehow or another my roommate didn't know that I'd been lower it online, so they're paying the rent at $1500. So an extra $200 per month will probably pay the heating bill - the scariest part of owning a house is the heating bill, I've decided. And the roof. Heating bills and roofs suck!

AND we agreed to an 8 month lease, so it ends in Septmember, which is one of the best months to rent, so I won't be stuck trying to rent in Oct-Dec again.

Woohoo!

story Dec 7th 12:45 am

yay!

extra cash is always good.

and good that you guys agreed to that lease so that it'll be easier to rent later on.
