Every winter I am amazed…

I have never lived in a place where people come completely unglued…EVERY YEAR…when it snows…

Columbus Ohio has to be the most backward ass city ever when the flakes start falling…I could understand the panic if we were down south…someplace where snow isn't the norm…

But we are in the midwest…we don't get a lot of snow…but it does snow every single year…

And once again…total disaster…

I actually had a coworker call me one time and ask me what I was doing on my snow day…I replied "working…like you are supposed to be doing…we aren't in school…we don't get snow days you dumbass."

I listened to a girl at the doctor's office stress about driving down a hill ALL damn day (again it's Ohio…my definition of a hill and what is around here is very different…it's flat farmland for crissake)  We have 5 inches of snow…she actually said…"it's a blizzard!"

<insert eye roll here>

I will murder somebody on the way to work tomorrow…someone will do 10mph in front of me and I am going to ram them right into a ditch…

I can feel it.

Darlene Jan 14th 4:53 pm

ram them into a ditch and then beat them to death with my ice scraper/brush combo…

Taz Jan 14th 5:34 pm

Can I just say…I do love you Dar!  Reading this is exactly what I needed after the day I've had…

Should I even mention that is currently 84 in San Diego?

mox Jan 14th 5:38 pm

no, taz. no, you shouldn't.

*grumbling off to the gym in my snow boots*

glory Jan 14th 5:40 pm

*nods* I'm a little luckier here, Dar. But yeah, people are going on about the possibility of a blizzard. They even canceled school yesterday and the roads were GOOD and there was just a dusting of snow. Dumbasses.

Oh, and I would suggest that you also stick that scraper/brush combo up their ass, but I'm sure there's already a corncob up there already…

it's only me Jan 14th 5:52 pm

Darlene, just wondering what type of car do you drive? Is it a big suv with four wheel drive or a smaller car?

Even though we get hit with a lot of snow every winter, we still have people driving at 10/15 mph when there is snow on the road. Of course people with the suvs still think it's ok to drive 30-45 mph and love to fly around those corners and actually do ram some of these cars into a ditch. And then we have those that try to pass the car in front and cause a 3+ car pile up.

I am one of those people that drive slow in the snow and even in the rain at times because I was in a very serious weather related accident a couple years ago and now occasionally I have panic attacks while driving. And although I will pull over to let any car pass me it is very hard to stay calm when I have someone driving right at my bumper.

I used to lose my patience with people who drove slow. But then I remember, you never know who's behind the wheel in front of you or why they may be driving so slow.

Darlene Jan 14th 6:41 pm

I am from Massachusetts and am there every winter and it is NIGHT and DAY with how people react to the snow.  My POINT was how panicked people become in Ohio with a little bit of snow.  Five or six inches of snow is hardly classified as a blizzard…but that's how people respond.

That was my gripe…

I don't ride asses because I am very wary of people who drive so slow and figure they will do something stupid like stop suddenly.

Don't need a lecture.

BUT you are having panic attacks while behind the wheel of a car…that's dangerous.  And if you are doing 10/15mph on a highway…you need to stay the hell home…or let someone else drive when the weather is bad.

Darlene Jan 14th 6:53 pm

And yes…I do drive a big SUV with 4-wheel drive and all-terrain tires….

I also drive a honda civic in the snow too…

And my opinion is the same regardless of what car I am using.

Jen Jan 14th 8:29 pm

It's currently -18 here and expected to get to about -30.  That's not taking into account the wind chill. My car actually looked at me tonight when I put the key into the ignition and said "are you KIDDING me??"

You can all fuck me twice and go home spent, I refuse to feel sorry for any of you.  LOL.  *sticks out tongue*

Darlene Jan 14th 8:37 pm

LOL!  ok…you win.

bnldavid Jan 15th 6:52 am

And I heard last night Jen that most people in Minnesotah have finally stopped sleeping with their windows open at night now because its below zero.

*giggle*

But seriously, that is insane. It was -10 here last night and going to be -19 tonight.

This is why sometimes January just makes me come unglued. You can only take so much of it and then if starts affecting your work, relationships and everything else.

Sounds silly, but it is not. I'd move out of here in a heartbeat if not for my family business.

Jen Jan 15th 7:22 am

I joke, but really the snow/cold doesn't freak me out that much. Stretches like this where it literally has been below zero for days on end are exhausting, but I'll still take it over 110 degree days ANYTIME.  You can always put more clothes on, but you can only get so naked. *shrug*

omg…*dying* That was hysterical! I vow to use that quote somewhere (other than here) lol I love it!

And yeah, you win. LOL

I agree with the heat thing Jen…I hate the heat, I hate the extreme cold, but given the choice, I will take the cold any day over the heat.

I know, I know…our resident Sun Goddess, Darlene (who I swear could be confused as my biological sister b/c she gets so dark in the summer--except for the hair) will argue with us on cold vs heat lol

It's ok, Dar, we love you anyway. :o)

Dean Jan 15th 10:21 am

Psh…come talk when your windchill hits -63ยบ  :p

But I don't like to complain too much about it. Like I always tell people, yes it sucks being this cold but -40 has never destroyed anyone's house like a tornado, hurricane or earthquake can.

Jen Jan 15th 10:26 am

Good point, Dean.  Minnesotans are basically like whiny Canadians. LOL.

tj Jan 15th 3:10 pm

Ugh, I don't driving in snow…. I know we (being midwest/ MI) rarely, if ever, get snow like the North East but living in the back woods you learn to deal with the snow on the roads because the salt trucksrarely get there…. the best is always when the roads get trashed down, it all freezes over night and the salt trucks haven't come through….. *sigh* yeah, still don't miss winters thanks.

Thank Heavens I only ditched my car once due to snow related issues….. and it wasn't even that bad…. it could have been *much* worse.

Darlene Jan 15th 5:03 pm

In the summer…I can get naked and live in my pool…sure my boys get all grossed out..but fuck 'em…I pay the mortgage…

In the winter…all I can do is look out and call it my pit of dispair.

I hate that it's so cold right now that the packed snow from driving remains glued to my tires…

David…say the word…I'll run away with you…

mox Jan 15th 11:35 pm

it took me a good eight years, but i'm finally a boo-hiss-winter person. i flipping HATE the cold. it makes me want to deck people. it makes me want to give up he fight and die in the alleyway. it makes me want to beat inanimate objects until my fists are bloody stumps. it makes me want to hurl my dogs into oncoming traffic. it makes me, at the very least, angry… and at the very worst, suicidal.

okay, so i'm being just a tad melodramatic. but, for the record, there's an inch of ice in the back foyer and the back door's swollen OPEN.

if satan ever wanted my soul, this would be a good time to bargain…

Sean Jan 16th 6:55 am

Next summer I am also planning on getting naked and living in Darlene's pool.

bnldavid Jan 16th 6:58 am

The school district here cancelled the last two days because of the cold.

Do I agree with that?

Only from the standpoint that…..

We would never have been able to keep enough school buses running to take the kids to school.

On the other hand, back in the "olden days" school was open "for those who can make it".

The bus kids didnt have to come if their parents couldnt bring them, but they had to make the homework up.

I didnt ride the bus and I didnt have a problem with that.
