BNL Chatter / Barenaked Advice / paint shop help

I use Jasc Paint Shop Pro--works about like any other paint shop program I think. I haven't done a whole lot with it yet, but just playing here and there. (I no longer have the program that I loved and knew upside down *sobs*). Well, I'm making our Save the Date cards and I want to put a picture of James and I on the card, but I want it faded, in the background, so I can write the information over it. I know it's all done with layers, but that's all I know. I've been experimenting with it, but just not getting it yet. Instead of beating my computer into submission (thought about it), I thought I would ask first… So, my questions are these: 1) How do I achieve the faded background look? 2) How do I get the text on there with my color choice (can't get that right either). If anyone knows how or can show me to a tutorial, I'd be really grateful. You can email me at mijacogeogkf at gmail dot com if it's easier. Thanx! |

I use Paint Shop Pro Photo 11 quite a bit. I think you should be able to create a duplicate of your original as a layer and when you do you can change the opacity, usually with sliders or number values. You should have an option to rearrange layers or make that one primary and then get rid of the other. Do the same thing to make one additional layer for your text. you can play with some of the color values on the text layer and see how it looks when they are merged. You could keep creating layers with different options and try them all then when you are done get rid of what you don't need and merge your primary image with the text layer. As far as selecting text color you should have a palette to select colors or you should have a tool to select a color from your photo…it should show you the color value as you scroll over the photo with the color picker tool. I hope this helps… |

Yeah Sean's right, just change the opacity of the picture layer. I haven't worked with PSP in a long time since I got Photoshop so I can't quite remember how to format text. There's probably a controls box or something with all your text format options. |

Actually I'll be working on a comp at work this afternoon that I think should still have PSP on it. I'll take a look. Which version of PSP though? If you're calling it Jasc it's gotta be a few versions old isn't it? I know version 10 was made by Corel. |

Oooh…I'll have to try these suggestions tonight! Thank you! Jasc is version 9. I love playing with the photo programs, but this one is a friend's cast off, so it's new to me. I used to work with Micrografx a lot and although it was limited compared to what I know psp can do, I was a pro at it lol but, times a change lol |

I'm convinced that starting up a wedding invite company would be profitable. I've yet to see anyone do it right…and they're all freakin' expensive! How hard is it to offer everything from invites, to inserts, to menus, etc with the same card stock and style?? I'm not even involved with that stuff, but every time I hear Amy talk about it I get disgusted. |
