So what did everybody get/give for Valentines day? I'll start: I got:Flowers,Chocolates,an overnight bag, dinner at my favorite restaurant in SF, a nice card, and a PROMISE RING!!!!! Woo Hoo, sorry i'm a little excited, it's my first! Oh and because he's a dance instructor, he made a dance for me and dedicated it to me during a job on Presidents day. It'll be on You Tube soon! ;o) All the seniors at the senior center loved it! hahahahhaha |

I gave: an opaque rubber duckie with red hearts all over it that has a multi-color LED lights in it. It lights up when you hold it in your palm or when you float it in water. It's so cute (and he likes duckies lol). Also gave him a petrified heart shaped rock, painted red that says "You are special" --we have an ongoing joke about being "special" and needing to wear a helmet. lol I also gave him a silly card that still makes me giggle. I got: A white bear wearing shades and holding a big heart that says, "You Rock"; a sweet card that started out, "To my Fiancee"; dinner (yummy steak) at Tumbleweed, then out to see a movie (Paul Blart: Mall Cop). I even got jumbo popcorn (that I'm still eating today LOL). We took the kids with us this year, and celebrated as a whole family. It was so much fun! |

While I am very happy for both of you (cause you're some of my favorite people!!!), this VD stuff makes me wanna hurl. I've never been a fan of the day…just think it is too commercial…too much pressure…just too much. So, forgive me for being a sour puss… |

I got nor gave nothing… but that's just kind of an agreement we have. We'd rather be a little more random with showing our appreciation for each other, it is just more "us" than the big commercial holiday. Not that I judge people who celebrate it; I used to get really into it. As I've aged, though, it's gotten less important to me. *shrug* |

I got jodi flowers. They were not appreciated in my mind. I got a card from her. We gave the kids home baked cookies, a small box of locally made candy and some cash. We gave gibbs some bones, a bag of treats and 3 dog cookies.

I paid the mortgage and said that we can live here another month. I also paid the electric, our car payments, phone, cable, and our cell phones. I also told her that we're closing on the re-fi this Thursday so we're going to save a few hundred a month on the house payment. Like Jen, we don't really get into that Holiday that much. It's more of a holiday that was cooked up by Hallmark to make some money…and why must we have to have a day to tell each other that we love each other?? We like to do things on days that mean more…like the day that we got married. I like to celebrate that we made it another year without her killing me. That's more of something that I like to celebrate…the fact that I'm still alive another year. And I like to pick days throughout the year that we do things nice to each other…or those things when you see them and know that the other person would love it.

Well I can't ignore Valentine's Day because it is my wife's favorite holiday ("because of the colors and all the hearts") but we stay reasonable and put a limit on what we can spend for each other. Last year it was $10, this year we upped it to $20. The big whammy comes two days later on her birthday. I got: Some candy and a wireless controller for my PS2. Never thought I would need one until I had a toddler that likes to pull on the wires. Now I just have to find the time to actually play the darn thing.

I'm with Taz…C-pher and Jen… It's the other 364 days that matter…anybody can fake it for a day…but I am not knocking those who get all in to it…I am glad you had a great day. I look at this holiday as a big money day for us…and that's about it…the restaurant did $65,000 in sales for Saturday…cha'CHING! Valentine's Day and Mother's Day are HUGE restaurant days for us. Chip told me that this year… he did notice that most of the diners were in their early 20's…hardly anyone older…but people waited 3 hours…at 10pm there were still 80 names on the wait list… That's insane…but it pays my bills so more power to 'em! I had a really good friend over for dinner… because last year on Valentines… his wife left him for someone else and I didn't want him to be alone… And we watched "Zack and Miri Make a Porno." Then Chip came home from the restaurant and we watched "Taken." GREAT movie! |

I've always liked Valentine's Day. And I've had my share of crappy ones. 2002 I spent the night at a drag club with a 300 pound gay man. That was only topped by 2003 when I stood up in Atlanta on a weekend that I paid for. This year I gave Hotstuff a bunch of exotic fruit (we have an inside joke, I give him fruit a lot), a bottle of top-of-the-line fish oil pills (he takes like 9 a day), some gourmet mixed nuts and fava beans (he really likes fava beans), and a slice of cheesecake (it's the only sugar he eats). He gave me a book. With a special bookmark. And a bottle of wine. Waaay sexier than it sounds. |

I gave myself the just-released "My Bloody Valentine" special edition dvd. I decided to be my *own* valentine this year, since I know what I like. <g> (Oh, and my ma bought me this little pink stuffed monkey that plays EMF's "Unbelievable". Cutest thing ever.) |

He got a cute pair of Valentine's boxers. We had a fight the night before, so I got the silent treatment. Best Valentine's day ever. |

I was shamed into buying something…not really how I prefer to show my love. Can't complain much, though…I got some nice cereal bowls for the new house. |
