I have a Fujifilm fine pix with the xD picture card. My boyfriend's friend used the camera and I have no clue what he did to the memory card, but when I got the camera back the card was in backwards and he had managed to erase all the pictures even though they were supposed to be locked in. So now when I turn on the camera I get a message that says "card not initialized". Anything I can do or is this one now good as dead?

Yikes.  I'm more more worried about your camera than the card.  Either way, you might want to get another card to see if the camera's reader works before you try doing anything to the old one.  But I guess it depends on how important those pictures are.

I agree with Richard, check the camera first.

As far as the card, try a different card reader. Take it up to walmart and plug the card in on their photo island thingee, if you can't find another way.

Yeah, hopefully I'll make it to Walmart or Best Buy tomorrow. I'm really hoping it's just the card. Luckily the day before I had already transfered all the pictures to cd and made prints. I only lost a couple pictures and a video or two.

I'm not entirely certain. But, I think it just needs to be reformatted (something that should be able to be done through the camera). Unfortunately, I think the pics are lost. Did you already have them uploaded to a computer or website?

Computers, cameras, and machines do not like me. The camera would not reformat the card for me, but the guy at Best Buy had no trouble and had the card fixed in just a couple of minutes. Our friend will be happy to hear that he doesn't have to buy us a new card or camera. I was kind of looking forward to an upgrade ;-)

He knows. He's living with us right now and we were using the camera today.
