Clerk dies when van crashes into store This happened at the gas station just a mile from our house and where I buy my gas. I don't know the young lady that was killed, but I am sure she has waited on me. Two families are destroyed by one simple mistake. I cannot believe there wasn't something between those curbs and the window to keep a vehicle from going through the wall so easily. There is a photo, but I didn't feel like posting it… From the Sheboygan Press The victim was identified as Emily E. Hughes of Sheboygan. Police said the accident happened just before 11 p.m. at the Pig Stop, 2917 N. 15th St.. Police gave this account of the crash: Jeremy Pfister, 32, of Sheboygan, the driver of the van, had just gotten gas at the convenience store and his wife went inside to pay for the gas. Pfister backed up the van so he could pick her up at the door. The van went backwards into the west side of the building, breaking through the glass window at the front of the store, coming to rest inside the store. The van struck Hughes, pinning her under the rear bumper and debris from the crash. "One foot one way or the other, and (the van) would have hit the brick wall and we would not have this tragic result," said Lt. Brad Riddiough. Hughes was taken to Aurora Sheboygan Memorial Medical Center and then transferred to Froedtert Memorial Lutheran Hospital in Milwaukee where she died at 12:08 a.m. Sunday. Neither Pfister, nor his three children, who were in the van at the time, were injured. Riddiough said the van was "not traveling at an alarming rate of speed," and alcohol was not a factor. The accident remains under investigation. http://www.sheboyganpress.com/article/20090713/SHE0101/907130353&referrer=FRONTPAGECAROUSEL |

Now that they have put up her picture, I know this girl well. She has waited on me upteen times. I just talked to her on July 4. Sad does not do this justice. The driver is now in a mental health facility under heavy sedation. |

Terrible for all those involved or affected. It reinforces that we need to show kindness and appreciation for all those along our journey in life, for some will be lost unexpectedly along the way… |
